HBM has been working with the Stark County District Library for almost 20 years, having designed or renovated most of the branches in the system during that time. Two years ago we developed a Visioning Assessment of the system, exploring opportunities to incorporate a new SCDL Smart Store brand and service model throughout the system. The Smart Store service model, “where everything is free” looks to provide:

  • Fewer, smaller service points

  • Self-checkouts and self-service holds

  • Study Rooms and Collaboration Areas

  • Flexible displays and browseable layouts

  • Enhanced technology

  • Children’s interactive & Early Literacy features

Last year, a facility assessment of the SCDL Jackson Branch uncovered issues that would be very costly to correct. It was determined that replacement would be more economical than repair and renovation.

HBM recently completed stakeholder engagement sessions with the Jackson community and is currently developing the design for the new branch which will be one part of a redevelopment of the Jackson Township North Park. The library will share a site with a new amphitheater and become a community destination point.
