BELLEVUE PUBLIC LIBRARY

Beautiful historic Carnegie has been restored and updated to fit the needs of today

This project entailed the renovation of a 14,000 SF historic Carnegie Library and expanding the building to 16,300 SF. HBM has worked with the Bellevue Public Library since 2009 assisting with bond issue campaign support while developing a building program and needs assessment. HBM conducted an assessment of the existing library building, and facilitated roof repairs and other improvements. In addition, we helped with the demolition of structures adjacent to the library impending expansion.

The design of the increased expansion space celebrates the mission style of the Carnegie portion of the building while opening up the corner creating an inviting and exciting new ADA accessible building entry. The addition also provides a face-lift to the prior expansion from the 1980’s creating a unified building facade. The construction schedule followed a phased approach in order to keep library services available to the community during the renovation and expansion.
