HBM is working with the Toledo Lucas County Public Library to re-imagine their 300,000 square foot Main Library. Seeking to enhance the services provided to their downtown customers, the building will undergo a renovation in phases that will touch all parts of the facility and will result in a transformed, flexible, modern Library for the 21st Century. Project highlights include:

  • Activate the historic Art Deco entry lobby as a more vibrant space, a Multi-generational Maker U space, a Computers/Technology wing and a Digital Media pathway to the rest of the Library.

  • Create a new Café/Vending/Grab and Go space on the main level

  • Rework the lower level with a larger Collaborative Meeting Space, Small Business Incubator Space, flexible informational displays and exhibit walls.

  • A connected Teen Room in this area will encourage synergy between teens and other users of the space.

  • Creation of a new material ‘Promenade’ that will lead customers through the Library from the historic entry lobby through the transitional media display spaces and reading room ultimately to a terminus at a glass-fronted seating area featuring a dramatic sculpture by Dale Chihuly.

  • New location for an enhanced Friends / Library Store

  • study roomsAddition of technology teaching spaces, small and large

  • Reconfiguration and relocation of the Gallery and other exhibit spaces
