FINDLAY-HANCOCK COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY
The Findlay-Hancock County Public Library retained HBM Architects for a visioning process to explore options for an expansion and renovation project that would help the library provide greater services to its community.
HBM facilitated a community stakeholder session to gather input and paid close attention to the context of the community and the existing library in developing the conceptual design. The only space available for expansion is an adjacent property owned by Hancock County and currently used for parking, which is in high demand in the downtown area. An unbuildable utility easement separates the County-owned property from the Library. Our design solution is to expand the library on the second level, bridging the utility easement, and incorporating tuck-under parking on the ground level. This will provide the Library with much needed expansion space while also maintaining access to convenient downtown parking.
The concepts that HBM developed for this 56,800 SF facility provided the Library with the vision and material to demonstrate need and show what is possible to build support for the project.
