James serves as one of three Principals at HBM Architects and has been with the firm since 2006. His primary role is providing project management services, leading daily coordination and communications with the project owner, our engineering consultants, and our in-house design team. Throughout the design, document production, construction administration, and close-out phases of the project James engages with the project architects, junior staff, and interior design team to ensure optimal results. His work approach and ethics promotes an office culture of professional development and continual staff education.
Having achieved the LEED AP BD+C accreditation, James guides our projects through the integration of sustainable design strategies and oversees the project team through the LEED Certification process. Clients regularly comment on how comfortable and assured they are working with James on the decisions that are made throughout the design process.
James grew up playing with wood toys, puzzles, and furniture created by his grandfather. His time spent around woodworking equipment and climbing on stacks of lumber in his grandfather’s barn and orchards lead to an interest in creative problem solving, building and a career in architecture. He takes pride in seeing the joy and excitement at grand openings as the community experiences their new or renovated library for the first time. Many years of attending these events with his family has led to his daughter becoming an avid reader and library user.
